Alanya Castle: 800 Years of Seljuk History on the Mediterranean
The castle that has watched over Alanya since 1226. A complete guide to its history, what to see inside, and how to visit.
You've landed, checked in, and you have the rest of the day. Here's what we recommend — based on watching thousands of guests do exactly this.
First: walk the harbour. The waterfront between the Red Tower and the boat jetties takes about 20 minutes end to end. You get your bearings, you see the castle on the hill, and you understand the layout of the city in one sweep.
Second: Cleopatra Beach. If you're arriving in season (May–October), the beach is walkable from most central hotels. Arrive after 5pm to avoid the midday heat and the busiest crowds. The light on the castle from the beach at golden hour is one of those views that stays with you.
Third: dinner at the old city. The cobbled lanes above the harbour have a concentration of fish restaurants and grills that are a step above the resort strip. Ask your hotel for a specific recommendation — the quality varies, but the best spots are genuinely excellent.
One thing to skip on day one: the castle. It deserves its own morning with comfortable shoes, not a tired end-of-travel-day climb. Save it for day two.
75 minutes from Antalya Airport or 45 minutes from Gazipaşa. Direct to your hotel, no stops.
